The Sunshine Coast
Billions of dollars have been spent and are continuing to be spent on local infrastructure to capitalise on the rapidly expanding population. The recently opened Sunshine Coast University Private and Public Hospitals providing the largest health campus in the Southern Hemisphere on the Kawana Way, ‘Oceanside’ the name given to the central Kawana region, adjacent to the hospitals complex, is under transformation at an estimated $5 billion.
This will provide a new Town Centre and beach side living at Bokerina.
Maroochydore town centre is also under huge redevelopment, as are all the major shopping centres at Kawana, Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, and shortly Caloundra, to name but a few. The Sunshine Coast Airport has just had a $225 million expansion approved to cater for the additional domestic and overseas visitors
Sunshine Coast Tourism continues to thrive with local attractions such as the iconic Australia Zoo, Aussie World, Mooloolaba’s Sea World, Yandina’s Ginger Factory, Bli Bli’s Castle, Noosa’s National Park and adjoining beaches, the Glass House Mountains and the delightful hinterland townships of Montville and Maleny. These bring in tourist dollars as a key foundation for the local economy.
The Sunshine Coast is a stunning expanse of coastline about an hour’s drive north of Queensland’s capital Brisbane. Beginning in Caloundra, it stretches as far north as Noosa, about 58 kilometres by road and as far inland as the hinterland, the Blackall Range, the delightful townships of Montville and Maleny and the Glass House Mountains. The Sunshine Coast is experiencing rapid growth and the current population is expected to double within the next 20 years. Several land developments are now being undertaken in order to cope with the considerable population increase, the two largest developments by far are ‘Aura’, south of Caloundra, a 35 year development duration housing over 50,000 residents and at ‘Harmony’, centrally located at Palmview with a 15 year time frame, and home to over 12,000 residents.
Huge infrastructure is now being undertaken to cope with the expected population increase, major roadworks are being constructed, industry is rapidly expanding creating additional employment. Among the major projects completed or under construction are the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital adjacent to the recently opened $2.2 billion Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital on a 20 hectare site south of Lake Kawana on the Kawana Way. Also upon this complex is a health related innovation park for private and non-government sectors, an academic and research centre and several diversifying businesses from florists to pharmacists providing the largest health campus in the Southern Hemisphere.
The location is equal in time and distance to both the Aura and the Harmony developments. ‘Oceanside’ the name given to the central Kawana region, adjacent to the hospitals complex, is under transformation at an estimated $5 billion and will provide a new Town Centre, man made lakes and beach side living at Bokerina
Maroochydore City Centre is undertaking major redevelopment and a 53 hectare site in its midst is being transformed into a Central Business District for the 21stCentury. The Sunshine Coast Airport $225 million expansion was necessary to cater for the increasing number of domestic and overseas travellers and is scheduled to be completed by 2020. Sunshine Plaza the ‘Coasts’ largest shopping centre in Maroochydore is under major expansion, as are the Kawana and Caloundra Shopping Centres. Numerous additional projects are underway, far too many to itemise here in such a short space and major roadworks continue throughout the region
The Sunshine Coast’s climate is a major drawcard for its residents, so too is its numerous tourist attractions, its long wide beaches, its beachside shopping and outdoor eateries, sporting centres and activities for both young and old, its abundant wildlife, its rainforests, accessible mountains and picturesque hinterland townships, little wonder the desire to live there is so phenomenal.
